One of the all-time greats. Played during all of Real Madrid's 5 consecutive Europeans triumphs. Scored 484 goals during 665 club appearances. But he was not just a goal-scorer, but a leader and the driving force of the golden Real Madrid generation. Double Ballon d'Or winner, and selected in World Team of the 20th Century in 1998. His peers (Pele, John Charles, and Eusebio) called him the most complete player of the game. The Spanish Federation named him as their greatest player in the past 50 years in 2003. "The Blond Arrow" played internationally for Argentina, Spain, Colombia - combining 35 goals in 43 games. But remarkably he never played in the World Cup finals due to politics, ineligibility and qualification. But had he been able to showcase his talent on the greatest stage, would there be any question of the greatest?

But he was not just a goal-scorer, but a leader and linchpin of the golden Real Madrid generation. Double Ballon d'Or winner, and selected in World Team of the 20th Century in 1998. His peers (Pele, John Charles, and Eusebio) called him the most complete player of the game. The Spanish Federation named him as their greatest player in the past 50 years in 2003. But remarkably he never played in a World Cup due to politics, ineligibility and qualification. Had he, would he have outright cemented his status as the greatest?
