Crystal Palace 2015/16 Macron Home Football Shirt

Crystal Palace unveiled their new 2015/16 home shirt to a fanfare welcome at their annual awards. Once again, the Eagle's kit is manufactured by Macron, who are currently designing kits for several of the top teams around Europe, such as Lazio, Napoli and Sporting Lisbon.

The official club statement, described how the shirt was designed to reflect the club's proud South London traditions. It features the traditional red and blue vertical stripes and the yellow trim, which has been a feature of many Crystal Palace home shirts in recent years. The stripes are wider than last season's version and are also assymetrical, while a crew-neck has replaced last years v-neck half-collar design.

The reverse of the shirt boasts a 'Crystal Palace F.C.' embroidery, just below the neck and it's available in a standard and body-fit style. The club crest is embroidered on the front of the shirt. Chairman, Steve Parish, commented on how the club listened to the fans when designing the new shirt and inspiration was taken from other football clubs around Europe.

The expected release date for the shirt is mid-July, although pre-ordering is currently possible

It's fair to say, that the new shirt has been met with a mixed response from fans. Some fans have likened it to a Barcelona shirt and have commented on the lack of originality in the design. There may be some truth in the Barcelona resemblance, as Crystal released a statement claiming they took inspiration from other clubs around Europe. Other supporters have called for the removal of the yellow, but this is not new to the 15/16 shirt.

However, the shirt is simple and clean in it's design. And it doesn't look too busy, which can often be the case with striped shirts. It's unlikely to win any awards but at the same time it will not have fans turning away in disgust. Crystal Palace and Macron have played it safe with this design, and it's not significantly better or worse than last season's addition. A solid shirt. My rating = 7/10

Forgot to mention, I don't like the sponsor's logo though (but I realise Eagle's fans can't choose this).

7 out of 10 is a fair score. The yellow does spoil it a bit, and the assymetrical stripes aren't easy on the eye. But not a bad design as the review points out.
