On May 13th, 2012, Manchester City were crowned champions after the most thrilling finish to an English league season.

''We are the champions!''

It was the final day of the season, and an expectant Manchester City welcomed relegation strugglers QPR knowing that a win would seal their first ever Premier League title. City had dropped just two points at home throughout the season, and were strong favourites to secure another victory.

Home fans breathed easier after Pablo Zabaleta's opener in the 39th minute. But after half-time, Djibril Cisse equalised for the London club. And then Jamie Mackie's header put the visitors in front despite Joey Barton's earlier dismissal.

City fans were stunned - and watched in desperation as countless attacks were thwarted by a dogged QPR defence.

The home fans stared in to the abyss as news filtered through that Manchester United had secured an away win at Sunderland. City now had to score twice or see their fierce neighbours crowned champions.

Then came a glimmer of hope, as Edin Dzeko headed the ball past Paddy Kenny from a David Silva corner in the 92nd minute. The fate of the season now hung on the finest of margins. It was all or nothing - one goal would seal the title for City, while a draw would leave them runners-up.

City fans watched in grim silence as second slipped by. Time was running out, and Some United fans were celebrating prematurely at the Stadium of Light.

But then a loose ball fell to Sergio Aguero, who evaded several challenges, and smashed the ball towards goal!

The net bulged - and the Etihad exploded in a mixture of euphoria and disbelief.

This miraculous win enabled the Citizens to claim a historic Premier League title - ending a wait of 44 years to be crowned champions - and concluded the greatest finale to any season in the history of English football.
